Conner Prairie 1859 Balloon Voyage

Conner Prairie 1859 Balloon Voyage

The 1859 Balloon Voyage tells the remarkable story of how the first successful delivery of air mail via balloon happened to occur in Indiana. The helium-filled, tethered balloon allows guests to rise 350 feet in the air, giving passengers an excellent view of Conner Prairie’s preserved central Indiana landscape and views of downtown Indianapolis. As the only balloon in the United States set in historical context, it provides an excellent opportunity for families to learn about the science of aviation through the lens of history.

Fun Fact

The uninflated balloon is 17,000 sq. ft., three times the size of a basketball court; and at the time of opening, shared the record for the world’s largest balloon. During its first season, the attraction captured 30% more than its projected attendance.
