Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Museum engages PGAV Destinations to develop a vision for an enhanced experience to engage 21st Century visitors

PGAV Destinations is excited to create an Experience Master Plan for the Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Museum near Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Experience Master Plan will provide a five to ten -year vision for growth and will fulfill the Crater’s potential as a unique natural, cultural, and educational destination for visitors. The plan will include strategies for visitor engagement and creative approaches to visitor experiences.

Meteor Crater (also called Barringer Meteor Crater) is a National Natural Landmark located 35 miles east of Flagstaff on the Colorado Plateau. Nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep, it is the best-preserved meteorite impact site on Earth. NASA Apollo astronauts trained at this location to learn geology and how to collect moon rocks. Scientific research and astronaut training at Meteor Crater is ongoing.

“Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Museum is an internationally recognized attraction that speaks to the ancient history of our planet, ongoing research, and future discoveries.” said PGAV Vice President Tom Owen. “Nowhere else on earth can you find such a unique combination of stories involving astronauts, explorers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and Native American cultures. We are thrilled to help Meteor Crater fulfill its potential as a catalyst for Northern Arizona tourism, along with other world-class destinations such as the Grand Canyon, and Lowell Observatory.”

PGAV Destinations looks forward to adding interactive and engaging experiences to entice locals to visit more frequently, while adding more must-see experiences to attract tourists and international visitors. PGAV is known for leveraging the power of special settings to make lifelong emotional connections by inviting guests to experience the extraordinary.

According to Matthew Kent, President and CEO of Meteor Crater Enterprises, “We are an international destination due to the amazing scientific significance of this site. We appeal to diverse audiences because of our rich cultural history, natural austere beauty, and the awe-inspiring evidence of the power of nature’s forces. Each of these facets of the personality of Meteor Crater will be incorporated into new exhibits and programs.”

About Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater is where the science of meteors, impacts, and planetary science began. Meteor Crater, the world’s best-preserved meteorite impact site on Earth, is the spectacular result of a collision that rocked the American Southwest approximately 50,000 years ago with the energy of more than 20 million tons of TNT. Meteor Crater offers an interactive educational experience for the entire family in a beautiful, natural setting. The Meteor Crater Visitor Center is located on the rim of the Crater. The fully air-conditioned building features an 80 seat Widescreen theater, indoor crater viewing area, Crater Trail access, Interactive Discovery Center, Artifacts and Exhibits, Gift Store and Rock Shop, and Food Service. Elevators and ADA accessibility are available for guests with special needs. Meteor Crater is a family-owned business that preserves the crater for science without government funding. https://www.meteorcrater.com
